Sasha has grown up learning from fiddle players such as Hanneke Cassel, Alasdair Fraser, and many more. She learned from amazing cello players like Natalie Haas and Caleb Vaughn-Jones. She teaches a variety of styles including Scottish, Irish, Scandinavian and Old-Time. Whether you’re a beginner to the instrument, you want to learn some tunes to play in jams, you’re looking to learn more about ornamentation, bowings or phrasing, she can help. Her teaching emphasizes the importance of how learning by ear can help you be more in tune (haha get it?) with your instrument and help you better navigate the music. Along with learning the music, she believes that knowing the history of certain music traditions and how those traditions have evolved can help inform the players musical choices. She teaches all ability levels and age ranges and is open to doing in-person lessons in the Portland Oregon area or lessons over Zoom.
